Thanks, Ralph, for your comprehensive treatment of my issue.
"cutemouse.txt explains"
It is just one of many instruction files in \doc\
"I am not sure about Windows 7"
I, on the other hand, AM sure.
I have WP5.1+forDOS [and TameDOS6] working quite nicely in Win7 (32bit)
"to get it even work properly under Windows XP (SP3, 32bit)"
TameDOS6 provides some useful accomodation of WP to Windows.
"Most people that use WP5.1 still (or did until recently)
do so for the fact that they are not 'mouse incumbered'
and can work quicker with the keyboard only."
I do it because it has two (3 ?) unique features
1. It has a keyboard switch for swapping (only 2) documents
2. It has an UNDELETE, as distinct from UNDO function
3. I can use the fact that features like underline and italics are colour
coded on screen
for easy colour coding of text, without ever printing italics or
underline (or bold).
[I can keep using my dot matric printer, using only as much paper as is
printed on.]
"I am not even sure if a stock WordPerfect 5.1 even is "mouse aware" to
begin with (even under plain DOS)."
I'm not sure either, but with TameDOS6 installed
I can DEFINITELY use the mouse wheel to scroll through WP documents,
however, I can NOT relocate the Insert Marker by means of the mouse.
"The mouse support of Windows should be accessible in a DOS prompt as well."
If you would enlarge (more specific detail about steps) on that, I would
like to try it out.
After typing 'cmd' into RUN
the DOS screen has an insert marker that is immune to mouse movements.
"I will play with this a bit later today and let you know what I come up
with."
That is a tantalising 'offer' - thank you.
Joe
