For those curious: I've been in touch with the folks at ibiblio, to ask about our download stats for FreeDOS 1.1. They used to have a stats tool that would let content owners view the number of downloads. However, this was eventually removed, due to resource issues.
Instead, I've asked if they can provide some kind of estimate for the number of times fd11src.iso has been downloaded. For example, if we have access to network bandwidth data, we can compare the bandwidth consumed per day before January 1, and the bandwidth each day January 1-8, and divide the difference by 39MB (the size of the ISO file.) That's not a perfect number, but would be good enough. Going forward, I've written a download tracker on the web site. When you use the link on www.freedos.org/freedos/files/ to download the FreeDOS 1.1 distro, your download will get logged so we can run stats later. It isn't able to track torrent downloads, however. Also: The tracker tool has a simple load balancer built into it, where it will redirect your download to the mirror site nearest to you (based on your IP address.) Right now, only 2 of the mirror sites (mirror.aarnet.edu.au and gd.tuwien.ac.at) have sync'd with us, so I don't have the load balancer turned on. All downloads will pull from ibiblio until we have a few more mirrors in the mix. If the other mirrors (ftp.gwdg.de, sunsite.rediris.es and ftp.usf.edu) don't update by next weekend, I'll just add the ones that we have. -jh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ridiculously easy VDI.
