Yes, that's probably what happened. I must admit that I do find
cutemouse's style more logical and the MS style conter-intuitive. I was
just wondering which semantics was the good one...

No, I don't know of any software that actually depends on the MS style.
I noticed the difference because I wrote a DOS testcase specifically for
this API while hacking on the DOSEMU project's mouse driver. I needed to
know the exact behaviour and the way to treat the hotspot position. To
my dismay, Microsoft's driver, Logitech's driver and cutemouse dont't
behave exactly the same!
