Answering the Emacs question -

FreeDOS includes Freemacs, which tries to be very similar to GNU Emacs. But
it is a complete reimplementation, not a port of GNU Emacs to DOS. The
extension language in Freemacs is called MINT, which is based on the TRAC
string-based scripting language. (The name "MINT" is a recursive acronym
for "MINT Is Not TRAC.")

DJGPP has a version of GNU Emacs that runs on DOS. You can find it here:
