Wanted to let folks know that I've started making changes to the website based on the usability test results. I'm still re-evaluating if the site needs a complete overhaul or if I can update the design we have now. But while I work that out, I figure I can start making some of the suggested changes now.
FYI that I've changed the font and changed the "Wiki" link in the top banner to say "Help(wiki)". I also changed a few colors. Details for those who want them: 1. Fonts: I'd always planned to remove the use of Google Fonts. This was to help reduce "download size" of the website, and to speed up page rendering. The test.freedos.org uses default fonts that should be available everywhere. And now www.freedos.org does too. I also increased the line spacing to make the text easier to read. 2. Header links: The change to "Help(wiki)" is meant to be transitional. When I've made other changes to the site (added a new "about" page, etc) I'll change the links in the top header from "Wiki Forums Bugs Source Links [search]" to something like the recommendations from the usability test - they recommended "About Forums Help Download [search]" 3. Colors: I changed the color of the "special information" box (called an "aside") to light yellow background. This used to be a different light yellow background, but with tiny text. I also made the font size a "normal" font size, so it's easier to read. The footer used to be a darker gray background with small text. I've set the text size back to "normal" size, and set the background color to a light gray with dark gray text. Links are black. I think the effect is that the text is easier to read, and the links are easier to spot. In a later change, I'll move the longer text from the footer into an "impressum" page. That means the footer will be a list of links (social media, other info, etc). I think that future "impressum" page will basically say this: > Trademark statement: [text here] > > All other marks are property of their respective owners. > > The FreeDOS Project or any of its partners make no guarantees, explicit > or implicit, about the contents of this website. Use this website and > any links at your own risk. > > Thanks to SourceForge for hosting our email lists and wiki. | FreeDOS > at SourceForge > > Thanks to Ibiblio for hosting our FreeDOS distributions and FreeDOS > Files Archive. | FreeDOS at Ibiblio _______________________________________________ Freedos-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-devel
