That would have mitigated the problem on the Book386. This would have mitigated the (very rare) case of installing a disk installed on LBA, but moved to CHS only machine. But would create new problems when moving from one CHS machine to another CHS machine with different *virtual* CHS section for the same disk. BIOS's were free to and indeed did translate the same disk to different *virtual* CHS parameters, where LBA addressing solved the problem. Eric is right. in the meantime Jim knows the solution. When buying 386 class machines you are entitled to enjoy all the hidden problems from the time of 386 machines.
