Hi Ben, Jeremy et al,

if the law requires all operating systems to *verify age*
*at account creation* ... Yes of course, one could do as
Mint does, and ban Californians, but then FreeDOS does
not even HAVE accounts, as Jeremy has pointed out :-p

For a flag, I would suggest default < 18, not > 18, so
nobody can complain that DOS helps minors to claim they
would be adults. The other way round would be less bad,
I believe. Not that either flag would matter, since DOS
does not HAVE an age restricted APP STORE of any type.

In a related question, how is this supposed to work in
Windows? Block installation of apps downloaded from any
other place than official user-age-filtering app stores?
The whole law seems to be useful for smartphones only?

Unless of course adult websites are going to ask the
desktop computers whether their users are adults, but
the law seems to be about APPS, not the WEB? In both
cases, I do not see how app stores or websites would
decide whether users are CALIFORNIANS? Quite confusing.

Regards, Eric

Subject: [Freedos-devel] California's AB-1043

If this law is not amended before the end of the year, I suspect we'll
have a notice on the FreeDOS website in January that says something
like "Do not use if you live in California."

I've read that is how Linux Mint plans to handle it.

     "Not for use in California."
