Just tried both MS-DOS 7.1 and FreeDOS with COMMAND.COM of MS-DOS 7.1 - both behave as you describe above!


I use both features (F3 and Ins to edit command line) in MS-DOS often.
BTW, they are also available in DEBUG. Isn't this mean, that editing features built-in into kernel?

Yes. They're implemented in chario.c:read_line() and are available even after shell EXIT when you type another shell name ;-)
