AFAIK, other DOSes (by itself) don't give C: and D: letters to floppy
drives.

He _will_ be surprised, because other DOSes, which was used before, do
not show extra drives (without instructing them about this).

:) I myself never hear about computers with more than 2 drives, and I
doubt that will hear about such computers (after introducing hard drives).

Right now I have _no_ computers/drives with broken change line. But who
knows?

I don't remember precisely, but floppy.asm from kernel.tgz marked at 9
april of 2004.
