Hi! Below letter from Lucho:
Hello from Lucho! "Old love doesn't get rust", as our saying goes. I'm not back, but instead asked Arkady to forward this message of mine into the kernel mailing list. I'll try to be concise and up to the point. First, I'm happy that our kernel reached its present state. This was thanks to Bart, Tom, Arkady, and all the other contributors (including myself). But now when Bart decided to quit maintainance, nobody is ready to replace him. Or... is there anybody? Speaking formally, no. But looking more broadly - yes. We have a programmer who tries for a couple of years to contribute to the kernel, even not obeying the rules for that. So many of his proposals have been rejected, albeit not all. Now he feels more free to contribute and does that at full steam. Let's face it, nobody is known to work on the kernel anymore except him. Of course, you know whom I'm talking about. Ladies and gentlemen (hmm... are there really any ladies here?), let me introduce you (drum roll please!) the new kernel magician - Mr. Arkady Vladimirovich Belousov from Moscow! ;-) No, I'm not joking. I'm deadly serious here. There is a person who works hard to continue kernel development. And instead of admiring that and helping him, we impose limits on him. We encourage him to "apply" for his proposals. We formalise and behave like old imperial bureaucratic rats. We don't enhance the kernel anymore but at the same time don't allow him to do this too. Why? To keep him from taking over? But he doesn't even have Internet access! So I decided to help him and offer him some place at my site to host his kernel. I'm happy to offer him help. I contributed to the kernel to be able to fairly use it in the embedded systems in whose development I participate. But Arkady does this even without personally benefiting from that! Why put obstacles to him then? As many of you know, he is a very good programmer, with a deep insight. Then please let him work and let's not waste his time with those [otherwise useful] formal requirements anymore! I learned that Tom starts his own kernel branch. Welcome back to kernel development, Tom! You have a very big contribution to reach the present kernel state, and I'm looking forward to your further improvements. What can be better than a competition between two excellent programmers like Arkady and Tom? Isn't it exciting to see this? Then, enjoy life and be good to each other, calm, without rudeness, respect each other to be respected by others, and good luck, you kernel magicians you!!!
