Maybe you can add support for PNG in arachne then. No license issues there!Of course, but what can one do if Arachne doesn't support it? If we're FreeDOS, we ought to support the only graphical DOS browser, or we won't be taken seriously! A typical reaction will be like this: "Ha! What FreeDOS can it be, when its site requires Windows / Unix / MacOS to browse!"Also, PNG format is better in all aspects and (in most cases) images there should be more compact.But why don't you use GIFs? The Unisys Lempel-Ziv-Welch patent expired 8 months ago (see http://www.unisys.com/about__unisys/lzw)LZW (used in GIF) is still not patent-free.
Actually, there already is a plug-in for that. But it has some restrictions. Probably the decompressing library is incompatible with 16-bit DOS.
As the last Canadian patent expires this July, trying to improve that would be a waste of time ;-G
