You might want to ask Michael for the latest testing binary

You should also try if it helps to explicitly use other DPMI
hosts instead of the default one for LYNX (which is probably
an old version of cwsdpmi).

your program uses DOS4GW, try loading it with DOS32A, like
"dos32a lynx". Finally, you can load DPMIONE before you load
LYNX. Might help, too. Seems to be a good DPMI implementation

Lynx does use CWSDPMI and DOS/4GW need not be considered. The error message reported is CWSDPMI feedback. Which incidentally fairly convincingly proves that the error+fix Eric Auer discovered for EMM836 wouldn't make a difference here. The EMM386 error is an obscure condition and suggestions by proxy that people bother me for a premature EMM386 release will not change that.

To eliminate the possibility of a CWSDPMI error, the DPMIONE suggestion is a good one. It might also provide better debugging failure information. DPMIONE is available with instructions at:

http://www.sudleyplace.com/dpmione/

Use it in place of CWSDPMI. Please report on the results, including failure or partial success.

Memtest86 couldn't hurt, but since the error only occurs in certain situations, it is very likely that it would not uncover the cause of the failure. Given the error message and the additional failure with DR-DOS, I think it most like that either Lynx or CWSDPMI is corrupting memory. Lynx seems the most likely culprit simply because it's the biggest, most complicated thing running with the smallest testing user base, but it is much too early to point fingers.

As far as DOS32A, despite the frequent advocacy, DOS32A is no magic fix for DOS/4GW. DOS/4GW is a closed-source memory pig, seriously under-featured, has environmental setup quirks, and can be slow compared to most extenders, but it is generally quite stable. Not too surprising for an extender that has survived over ten years in millions and millions of machines.
