FDPKG 0.2 is now available at

(binaries) and
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/blair/fdpkg/fdpkgs.zip
(sources), and this release (considered stable), features many new
things and has no known bugs. FDPKG 0.2 is available in the Enhanced
Package format.

For more information about FDPKG and the Enhanced Package format it is
capable of using, see FDPKG's homepage at
http://wiki.fdos.org/Main/FDPKG . Its todo list and translatable
messages are also available there

The new features present in this release include:

* LSM parsing - the ability to decide if the package to be installed
is the same version as the version of the package already installed;
also the ability to print the description of a package from an LSM or
the ability to print a desired field of an LSM
* New mode to print the names of all of the installed packages
* When checking dependencies, two new syntax's are accepted; the " ||
" syntax can be used in depends.txt to specify that a package on
either side of the || can be accepted, also a !package syntax that
specifies that 'package' should NOT be installed with this package;
also, when checking dependencies, FDPKG can also attempt to install
any missing dependencies or remove any conflicts (at the user's
bidding, of course)
* Support for configuration scripts to be written in PERL, PYTHON,
REXX, BASIC, or BATCH for increased power (detected by extension,
INSTALL.PL for PERL, INSTALL.PY for PYTHON, INSTALL.REX for REXX,
INSTALL.BAS for BASIC, and INSTALL.BAT for BATCH; both FreeBASIC and
bwBASIC are supported as BASIC interpreters, and any REXX interpreter
with its exe as REXX.EXE and in the path is supported
* A new /F or /Y to automatically answer 'yes' to each question
* Error checking for Unzip.exe and 7za.exe (checking of their
errorlevels to detect failure)
* Full support for packages packed with 7-zip (much better compression ratio)
* Added usage of kitten library for translatable messages (FDPKG.EN in
fdpkgx.zip)
* Support for options beginning with the DOS switch character
* Support for options in the %FDPKG% environment variable
* Fixed problem with redirection
* Several code optimizations were made
* Workarounds for 7za to appear the same as Unzip

For instructions on how FDPKG is to be used and more about its
features, see the wiki page mentioned above and the help screen
available by typing "FDPKG /?" on the command-line.
