Eric Auer has the right idea.

* FreeDOS with maintenance tools on a bootable 1.44MB diskette (if your PC can't boot from the CD drive)

* FreeDOS with diagnostic and repair tools on a bootable 1.44MB diskette (for refurbishing old PCs)

* FreeDOS with maintenance tools on a bootable CD-R (if your PC has no floppy drives)

* [maybe] FreeDOS with maintenance tools for a USB flash stick (if your PC can boot that)

I would be willing to test any such distros.
