Try QCDROM, it can speed up CD-ROM transfer by enabling DMA, get from
my homepage.

You need 2 'driver' to use CD-ROM under FreeDOS:

1) QCDROM.SYS
2) SHSUCDX.COM

CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\QCDROM.SYS /D:CDROM1

AUTOEXEC.BAT:
SHCDX33A /D:CDROM1
