Hi, sorry I wasn't very clear in my first request for help. The answer to the first question is that I was using the onbord sound with both SB legacey support and AC97 compliant but appeared to be getting no sound at all, so I have switched to an old ISA based SB16. I have not loaded any drivers myself and have relied only on the install routine from Freedos. Also AdvMame is supposed to drive the sound card directly. More info about Advmame can be got from http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/ <http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/> (probably a better bet than me trying to explain it all) When I say its running slow, what I mean is from typing the command at the command prompt to the actuall program running can take anything up to 5 mins. I've also noticed that there is also a lot of disk access so I suspect that a swap file may be involved, but i'm not actuall sure where or why.
