Hi,
On some modern graphics cards, we're experiencing video corruption in 4
bit VGA mode (640 x 480, 16 colors) under FreeDOS when running CuteMouse
v1.9.1 alpha 1 (and HIMEM64 3.26).
The kind of video corruption depends on the video card: sometimes it's
ghosting (nothing gets erased), sometimes it's just junk everywhere on
the screen. Sometimes it just locks on a blank screen.
If we don't load the CuteMouse driver, there's no corruption (not
loading HiMem isn't an option so we can't test that part).
If we do load the CuteMouse driver, but never initialize the mouse,
there's no corruption.
If we use MS Mouse ("mouse.com") the corruption doesn't happen.
But as soon as we initialize the mouse in our application with CuteMouse
on these certain video cards, the screen goes nuts. The video cards we
know about:
* nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4400
* ATI Radeon X1900 Crossfire
* ATI X1900 (PCI-Express)
* ATI X1800XL (PCI-Express)
* ATI EAX1300PRO (PCI-Express)
* ATI X850 Pro (PCI-Express)
If anyone has any clue what might be going on, we'd love to hear your
thoughts. Else, we thought we'd inform the community.
Thanks everyone!
Andrew
