I already use "fdapm apmdos" all the time. In fact, I now avoid
editors, viewers, browsers, etc. which are not FDAPM-aware.

But there are a few non-FDAPM-aware programs which I need, in
particular the database DataPerfect. With DPAKBD (or the
shareware Tame) they act as if they were FDAPM-aware. It is very
efficient: "fdapm stats" typically reports that the CPU is idle
for about 95% of the time. I also tested that by removing the
cooling fan and touching the CPU (Pentium 133 MHz), and indeed it
remains completely cold.

However, DPAKBD is needed only for these few non-FDAPM-aware
programs. I would like to unload it after use because it slightly
interferes with (i.e., slows down) keyboard speed and execution
of some programs.

There is also the utility DOSIDLE by Japheth, which I thought
would do the same job. The instructions say:

"DOSIDLE is a DOS device driver to be loaded in CONFIG.SYS
which tries to detect idle states and then executes a HLT.
This often has advantages when running in a virtual
    environment (qemu, VMware, ...)."

However, I have not been able to make it work -- perhaps because
it is not in a virtual environment.

Thanks,

Marcos
