The experience was quite limited
Had two old dell's with pentium, one a pentium two, ans a newer('07) dell
with amd duo-core;
installation took the same amount of time;
bootup on the p4 was almost as fast as on the amd;
bootup on the p2 was more than a minute;
elementary usage(file copies,editor,etc.) were noticably slower than on the
amd, but were not excruciatingly so.

Note that at that time(07), I tried ubu 7-ish on the old boogers, and the
p4 would crash, while the p2
couldn't even complete the installation(ubuntu 7 warned it wanted at least
300mb ram).

Frankly, I never seriously stressed the p4/p2/xp with a heavy app.
