Hi everyone I wanted to share the final stats of the FreeDOS article series. The series ended two weeks ago, so I think the numbers have settled down.
Here are all of the FreeDOS articles that ran on Opensource.com in June, sorted by page views: ArticleURLPage views to date (7/15) Interview opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-founder 90,810 Get started with FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/get-started-freedos 4,448 Why I love programming on FreeDOS with GW-BASIC opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-gw-basic 3,431 FreeDOS commands for Linux fans opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-linux-users 3,397 How to use FreeDOS as an embedded system opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-embedded-system 2,476 How to program in C on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/program-c-freedos 929 A brief history of FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/history-freedos 899 Program on FreeDOS with Bywater BASIC opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-bywater-basic 877 How FreeDOS boots opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-boots 746 Use this nostalgic text editor on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/edlin-freedos 739 Install FreeDOS without the installer opensource.com/article/21/6/install-freedos-without-installer 696 Why FreeDOS has 16 colors opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-sixteen-colors 599 Listen to music on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/listen-music-freedos 596 Copy files between Linux and FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/copy-files-linux-freedos 503 How to use the FreeDOS text editor opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-text-editor 431 Install and remove software packages on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-package-manager 428 How to navigate FreeDOS with CD and DIR opensource.com/article/21/6/navigate-freedos-cd-dir 380 Configure FreeDOS in plain text opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-fdconfigsys 366 Automate tasks with BAT files on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/automate-tasks-bat-files-freedos 350 Set and use environment variables in FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/freedos-environment-variables 330 How to archive files on FreeDOS opensource.com/article/21/6/archive-files-freedos 221 I don't know the official stat comparison for Opensource, but I've seen some unofficial stats of other articles, and anything above 500 views is doing pretty well. (People loved the Edlin article, by the way.) And for comparison, my other article How FreeDOS Grew Up and Became a Modern DOS <https://www.cloudsavvyit.com/12250/how-freedos-grew-up-and-became-a-modern-dos/> that ran on CloudSavvy IT on July 2 got 5,670 views. *Why am I sharing these stats? Because websites care about page views, and when articles about one topic do well, they are more likely to want other articles on the same topic. So if you're interested in writing an article about FreeDOS, but aren't sure if a tech website would run it - the stats suggest FreeDOS articles can do well. I encourage you to write that article.* My interpretation of the best-performing FreeDOS article topics on Opensource.com are: -introducing people to a new topic or project -programming -showing how things work -anything connected to Linux ..but that's just my interpretation. Jim
