On my Apsire I found that once I booted it up I could not plug a USB stick into the machine and have FreeDOS recognize.  But... if I plugged the USB stick containing the bonus disk into the machine _before_ powering it on, then the BIOS would recognize it and make it available to FreeDOS as drive D: and had no problem.

That has nothing to do with any specific Asus model (I have the same basic issue on Dell and Toshiba as well), but simply the fact that there is no "plug&play" USB in DOS. Plugging the USB device after DOS is already booted will not work on ANY of them. Plug it in BEFORE turning the system (back) on, and it will recognize it (BIOS will willing) just as any other hard drive...
