I've installed FreeDOS in QEMU on my Linux PC (the same PC used in all my previous tests) and attached an IMG file as floppy, created exactly in the same way as the others IMG floppy, and as expected no issue at all in compiling with the command "wcl prova.c".

I've installed FreeDOS in VirtualBox (latest version of VB, same version as on Linux PC) on a PC with Windows 11 and  attached an IMG file as floppy, created exactly in the same way as the others on Linux PC and moved to Windows PC, and I got the same issue in compiling with "wcl prova.c", as in the Linux PC on which I've done all my previous test.

I think I'll keep running FreeDOS in QEMU from now on :)

I have tried to reproduce this in QEMU for about 20 mins... but

I also can't reproduce it in QEMU.

I spent an hour writing a DOS game for myself (in C, using OpenWatcom) with all my work stored on the A: floppy drive (formatted image file). I saved often, and recompiled after every small change - to generate a lot of file I/O on the virtual floppy.

My files were never corrupted.

So I'm looking pretty hard at VirtualBox being the issue here.

I doubt it's a problem with Davide's VirtualBox config, this could be a bug in VirtualBox.
