ack, but I'm not a big fan of hardcoding the path of plugins in the code. It
may be good for Fedora/RHEL, but how about other distributions? Do we have any
policy about this kind of things?
We have a bug open to add more information to the 389-ds-base-devel package:

Seems like this sort of information could be provided by a pkgconfig file or a pkg info script (389-ds-base-config - like icu-config, krb-config, etc.) e.g.
pkg-config --variable=plugindir 389-ds-base
