I'm slowly starting the work to port Samba's bindings to Python 3, and since FreeIPA depends on them, this is relevant here.

Currently the consensus on the Samba list seems to be that support for Python 2 will be dropped shortly after the port. If that happens in Samba 4.3, this would give us about a year to port FreeIPA and all its dependencies.

Keep in mind that this is a very early heads-up. Samba build infrastructure improvements seem inevitable, and if the needed changes end up trivial enough, perhaps Samba can reconsider supporting both Python versions for some longer time.
