Hi, if the topologies contains 3 nodes, you need to make sure that the replication is not set with a single point of failure: each node needs to have a replication agreement with the 2 other nodes. Refer to https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/9/html/managing_replication_in_identity_management/assembly_managing-replication-topology_managing-replication-in-idm for examples.
When a node is shutdown and brought back, it is able to recover if the replication changelog (on the node it's synchronizing from) contains data up to the time it was stopped. The replication changelog can be tuned with a maxage (the changelog purges changes older than maxage) or maxsize (the changelog keeps only maxsize changes). Refer to https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/red_hat_directory_server/12/html/configuring_and_managing_replication/assembly_trimming-the-replication-changelog_configuring-and-managing-replication#assembly_trimming-the-replication-changelog_configuring-and-managing-replication for more details. If the changelog has been purged and the replica is unable to synchronize because of this, you will see an error message in the directory server error log (/var/log/dirsrv/slapd-XXX/errors), similat to "Data required to update replica has been purged from the changelog. If the error persists the replica must be reinitialized."
