I found the solution, the ips ranges of the VPN used to access the network had 
been changed.
The new ips range was not in the acl "trusted_network" list of the 
/etC/named/ipa-ext.conf file.
The service named was not allowing dns request from that ip range.
The other ipa server beeing accessed throught a gateway the ip requesting the 
DNS resolution was different and workign fine.
