Follow-up Comment #2, bug #38813 (project freeipmi):
Original reported problem occured on a HP ProLiant system.
Problem is not reproducing on any ProLiants available to me. Original problem
system has since been upgraded with newer firmware and is no longer exhibiting
the problem.
Have not tried this as a fix.
