Thank you for the FAQ update. In doing some more trolling around, I found this web page: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/querying-dumping-bios-from-linux-command-prompt.html which suggests that this command will dump info about an IPMI device, if it exists in the DMI: dmidecode --type 38 It also produces a sample printout of what such IPMI information might look like. You might want to put something similar into the FAQ, at least pointing out that if dmidecode produces an entry of type 38, it's likely that your motherboard has IPMI (but perhaps not the reverse).
