thanks a lot for that detailed explanation; I think I was missing it.

The reason why I wanted to have the extra paragraph disabled is the
following. Surely the extra paragraph is not visible, having the background
color when set so. However, its presence is apparent in that the vertical
toolbar is there when it would not be there without the extra paragraph.

I am accepting your explanation and no longer want to have the option to get
the extra paragraph removed. What is still a bit mysterious to me is why I
had no problems with my version where the last paragraph was disabled.
Anyway, let it be.
