One quite important bug report and different opinions on it.

Initial Comment:
I'm running FreeMind unstable .09-15b on XP Pro 5.1.2600, with JRE
1.4.2_13-b06.

When using the single + and single - icons in the menu-bar for expanding
and collapsing branches, all branches are expanded or collapsed from the
node selected. The expected behavior is just for the specific branch
that is selected, to expand 1 level at a time, upon clicking the single
+, or collapsed one level at a time upon clicking the single - "for that
branch." What actually happens is the whole tree (all branches) are
expanding and collapsing one level instead of just the selected branch.
Note that left-clicking from the mouse does work properly re
expand/collapse, and the space bar also triggers the right behavior.

This is a significant bug, in that our user base is used to expanding
and collapsing large trees by individual branches, in order to
"walk-through" a demo or presentation (I just asked our ITL to roll-back
to version .09-9b which does not have this issue).

Dmitri, Christian or Daniel - your help is appreciated.

(ps, I did not see this issue in the bug tracker, but If I missed it, my
apologies for any duplicate report).

Hi Chris,

the described bug is a result of the last change you have introduced in
freemind/accessories/plugins/UnfoldAll.java .

Could you please have a look.

Best regards,
Dimitry

Hi,

this was done by purpose. The menu items and the keyboard shortcuts are
for the specific branch only, whereas the toolbar entries apply to root
directly.
I thought, that it is easier to get a quick toolbar entry for root.

It is no problem at all to roll the change back, but is there a common
agreement, that the former behaviour is better/easier?

Hello Chris & Dmitri,

In my view, the former behaviour was logical and consistent with other
mindmappers, and other applications such as Lotus Notes. I also with
Human Factors IT specialists, and they feel the change should be
rolled-back. On a related note, a comment from Brian Salmon, our lead HF
person - - now that FreeMind has added tabs showing opened maps, the
darker tab should represent the active map, and the duplicate left &
right arrow keys can be removed (as the tabs provide for quicker more
intuitive navigation anyway).

Best Regards,

Hello Chris,

for me the old behavior is the most sensible and the new behavior is not
that good. I vote for the roll back.
I do not expect the logic of "The menu items and the keyboard shortcuts
are for the specific branch only, whereas the toolbar entries apply to
root directly." In the tool bar we have operations like Copy, Cut,
Paste, Italic, Bold. None of them applies to the whole map or to the non
selected root.

Further I would like you to notice that I do not read anything in this
bug thread because it is not assigned to me. I think the developer list
would be a better communication platform if you want "the common agreement"

Dimitry
