Hello Chris,

we have agreed that I start a new project for rewriting freemind in a new
design. Now we have got a post from somebody wanting to join the freemind team,
and I would like to invite him to my freeplane group. I have a lot of tasks and
I have also time for communication. I need good people. So if you do not tell
us any objections, I shall drop him a letter on the coming weekend.

Because of the same reasons I am going to announce the freeplane project in the
freemind open discussions forum. I would like to describe the goals and invite
people to contact me.

In short I want to declare the following goals:

1. Writing of the new program in the new design based on the old code.
The new design should provide a small kernel and many mostly mutually
independend packages. Plug-ins should be based on OSGI, XML-serialisations
should be done using XStream, the program should become easier to maintain and
extend.

2. After the new design is implemented, there is an option of distributing the
whole as freeplane or as freemind. We can decide about it together later.
Anyway the following releases should be produced as frequent as possible,
something between 2 and 4 releases each year. Therefore new people are welcome
to join the team.

I am writing the goals here in order to give you a possibility to make comments
right now before they are broadly communicated in the open forum.

Best regards, Dimitry
