Many people had requested a name change for
our project, for various reasons. Here were
the most common ones voiced by users:
- Anything with 'free' in the name makes the project sound "cheap"
- Name should be simple and relate to the function of the software.
I came up with the name 'plex86'. It's simply derived from
multiplex and x86, which is pretty much what we are doing; multiplexing
an x86 processor between OSes. Perhaps an obvious
nickname could be 'plex'.
Hope everyone like the new name. I registered the
domain name plex86.org recently. It should be
available as a URL soon, after it propagates. Both
plex86.org and FreeMWare.org will point to the same site.
