Traffic analysis does exist, and is easily countered, but only by making Freenet useless. We could make nodes delay messages for a random period of time, and somehow make all messages the same size by breaking them up, but this would mean people waiting hours, even days, for a request to return from Freenet. It would be interesting to see just what could be figured out if the entire Freenet could be monitored (ie. message paths could be monitored, along with message size, possibly with the occasional compromised node sprinkled in). I think that it would require an immense amount of effort to learn anything interesting about anybody's activities. Ian.
