I had not actually tried to install this version on a machine.
You are correct though. Something apparently went wrong with the
export of FreePM.zexp. I got the same results. I have re-exported
the original and recreated the tarball. Please get it from the
FreePM download site since I have not yet replaced the one on
Source Forge. The tarball is time stamped 25 Oct 2000 16:11

I assume you did import the other two .zexp files? 

Also your problem prompted me to back back over the install step
by step. I noticed in the last cleanup on the website that the
line saying that BTreeFolder & Renderable Base ZClass are
REQUIRED had been removed. So please reread the download
instructions page since I have made changes to it.
