I've found two useful online references:
SGI's reference http://www.sgi.com/Technology/STL/
Dinkumware's ref http://www.dinkumware.com/htm_stl/
If memory serves me correctly, Dinkumware's STL is the one that is shipped
with Visual C++.
Nowadays I tend to use printed references a bit more.
