High server load when logging to SQL

Does anybody have any advice on how I can reduce the load onthe server when
logging to MySQL with freeradius.  I'm authenticating with a Ascend Max TNT
if that makes any difference.  Basically what happens is as soon as logging
is turned to point towards the freeradius server, the cpu % that freeradius
takes up is about 98%.  Thanks for any ideas!
