  If you are attempting to authenticate that user with CHAP, then you
*require* the plain-text password of that user.  You *cannot* use the
/etc/passwd file.

  RADIUS does authentication.  It has to get the password around
*somehow*.  If your RAS did the CHAP authentication, then it would
have to have all of the passwords.
