Greetings, all.

I'm developing user login management software for ISP's, and I'm currently
researching ways of :
  a) detecting which users are logged in at startup
  b) getting notifications when a user logs in.
In both cases, I also want to find their IP addresses.

Most of the methods I've examined are HIGHLY dependent on the combinations
of hardware and software used.

I'd be very interested in hearing from the people on this list (i.e. real
ISP operators) as to :
  1) what access gear you are using (i.e. aggregators like the Nortel
Shasta, Redback SMS, Lucent Portmaster etc)
  2) what RADIUS you are using
  3) what database you are using for user profiles (LDAP, SQL, Preside,
etc.)
  4) what type of accounting software you run.
  5) any gotcha's or glitches they might know of in this area. (I've seen
the postings on radutmp - I'm sure there are others).

Trying to sort out the inter-dependencies from reading the RFC's is a
nightmare, so any input you can give will be greatly appreciated !

Rather than burdening the list, you may reply to me directly at

Many, many thanks in advance.
