  But it's buggy.

  Not that the ports are different.  It's sent TO 1812, and the reply
comes BACK from 1814.  This violates RFC 2865, section 3:

   When a reply is generated, the source and destination ports are
   reversed.


  So tell the other server to fix their software to obey the RFC's.
