Hi,
The vendor specific radius attribute (Attribute 26) just wrappes the
particular vendor specific attribute along with a vendor ID. But you don't
really need to know this in order to configure it. What you need to make
sure is that you have a dictionary file with the particular vendor specific
attribute listed. Normally you wouldn't specify 'Vendor-Specific =
"fedesvin"' in your users file. So for instance if you wanted to add the
cisco specific attribute Cisco-Maximum-Channels (see dictionary.cisco) you
would put the following in your users file:
"chapuser" Auth-Type := Local, Password := "stealme"
Cisco-Maximum-Channels = "47"
Reply-Message = "Hello Chapuser welcome to the AAA Server ",
Fall-Through = Yes
Remember to include the vendor specific dirctionary file in you main
dictionary file using the $INCLUDE statement
If you really want to know how FreeRADIUS wraps the vendor specific
attributes you can either:
- Read the FreeRADIUS source code
- Run "tcpdump -lnx -s 2048" and do some on the fly hex decoding
- Read RFC 2865 page 47

Subject: how to use Vendor Specific Attributes !
Hi all,
I am using freeradius server to send me some user specific information back
to
the radius client, earlier i used the REPLY MESSAGE AV PAIR for the same, by
modifying the USERS file.
But now i feel it would be better to use the AV PAIR named VENDOR SPECIFIC,
but i am unsure as how to how to change the parameters in the USERS file,
for
the same.
A part of my USERS File is as follows,
"chapuser" Auth-Type := Local, Password := "stealme"
Reply-Message = "Hello Chapuser welcome to the AAA Server ",
Fall-Through = Yes
but now i want to use Vendor Specific AV Pair which means, "Reply-Message"
has
to be changed to "Vendor-Specific".. but i dont know how to fill the
options..could anyone throw light on this !
If this is not possible could anyone advise what can be the other solutions
for the same !
Thanks in Advance..
Badri.
