FreeBSD has a long history on the Web, and is used to serve some of the busiest sites on the Internet, including Yahoo!. Apple engineers have adapted the FreeBSD system into their own low-level system, called Darwin, which is also released under an open source license. Darwin's relationship to BSD and the open source community means that developers who use open source technologies can expect the same functionality and flexibility on which they've relied in their UNIX systems.
