PPP connections work this way. It works because that is how the
specification is designed to work. You have one end-node, and it needs
only 1 IP. It would be very wasteful to assign a /30 netmask for every
PPP connection, as you'd burn 4 ips instead of 1.
If it seems wrong to you, you need to understand more about PPP. I suggest
searching google and reading some of the RFC's ( the latter for a detailed
technical explanation ).
