Title: FreeRadius 0.8, Oracle 8.1.7. Problem with CPU load

Dear colleagues,

Bugs removing from FreeRadius 0.7.1 made the compilation and work with Oracle much better. Developers worked really hard.

I performed few tests with FreeRadius 0.8, 'users' file and Oracle 8.1.7 and in following configuration:

Auth.mechanisms PAP
Port                    1812

OS                      SunOS 5.8 (Solaris 8)
PC                      Sun Ultra 80
CPU                     450-MHz UltraSPARC-II x 2
RAM                     1024 MB

RADIUS clients (LoadRunner 7.51, client of RADIATOR 3.3) were run from another PC.

Results were nice. FreeRadius 0.8 gives:
Work with 'users' file          270 authentications per second,
Work with  Oracle 8.1.7         149 authentications per second,
Memory consumption              4 MB,
Response time                   23 msec.

But I saw one problem. Total CPU load during the work with  Oracle 8.1.7 is about 27%.
I used UNIX utility 'top' v.3.5 for measurement of CPU load and memory consumption

I tried to change the parameters: num_sql_socks, start_servers, max_servers, min_spare_servers, max_spare_servers.
No results.

What could I do in wrong way ? What parameters can be changed to decrease CPU load ?
May be, adding of optimization flags to Makefile' can help ?

Best regards,
Alexander Novoselsky
