does the authentication work with a cisco or something "familiar"?
because otherwise it could be that windows can't find a right
certificate because no such is installed. that's the case e.g., when no
private key is attached to the user certificate...

ah that's interesting. please supply some logs in that case. the server
log would be good and perhaps you could sniff between supplicant and the
ap (or provide ap logs?)

an example with something which works would be nice...
