Dammit, I thought FreeBSD 5.1 had fixed this...
Find the definition of
GETHOSTBYADDRRSTYLE in src/include/autoconf.h
and change it from GNUSTYLE to BSDSTYLE.
Then recompile.

Before you do that though, I'd be interested in
seeing your config.log from 
configure:7978: checking gethostbyaddr_r() syntax
until
configure:8068: checking gethostbyname_r() syntax
