I really don't know what to tell you. I don't use LDAP, and NT-Passwords work fine with LEAP for me. Others on the list claim to have gotten LDAP, LEAP, and NT-Passwords to work, see the list archives. If all else fails, you've got access to source, and can track down what's going on, and why.
