I didn't know about IGEL Do you know if their thin clients will offer RemoteFX support using specialized hardware for the decoding of the codec used by RemoteFX?
The new version of mstsc.exe that came out with Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to offer software support for RemoteFX, without hardware acceleration. The problem is that implementing the codec in software is non-trivial, and also quite slow compared to hardware acceleration. I haven't looked at the codec specification myself, but if there was a way to accelerate RemoteFX decoding using general purpose GPU acceleration such as OpenCL, that would be nice. That just gave me the idea of trying to figure out how the new version of mstsc.exe actually implements software decoding of RemoteFX. Maybe it delegates part of it to the GPU, just like modern implementations of GDI do.
