if you are using VS2012, you can set the "platform toolset" to: "Visual Studio 
2012 - Windows XP (v110_xp)"

To avoid runtime requirements, I suggest also to set the "runtime library" to 
"Multi-Threaded /MT" (/MTd for the debug build)
This is especially worth with the monolithic build.

You have to provide your runtime dependencies. So whatever runtime you compile
against needs to be on target machine. I'm guessing you're using VS2010 - put
the VS2010 C++ runtime on the XP machine.

This has nothing to do with freerdp.
