if you are using VS2012, you can set the "platform toolset" to: "Visual Studio 2012 - Windows XP (v110_xp)"
To avoid runtime requirements, I suggest also to set the "runtime library" to "Multi-Threaded /MT" (/MTd for the debug build) This is especially worth with the monolithic build.
