Hi, Yes, it is possible to use FreeRDP for Lync RDP. I have done the work as contract for Ericsson, and FreeRDP Lync RDP support has been integrated with pidgin-sipe.
The integration with pidgin-sipe is quite simple and is done using unix domain sockets. xfreerdp and freerdp-shadow can both use a unix domain socket. With freerdp-shadow, you can use the /ipc-socket option to specify unix domain socket. This will also enable all Lync RDP tweaks. With xfreerdp, just pass the path to a unix domain socket to the /v: option instead of a hostname. Encryption, authentication and compression is disabled over Lync RDP (this is taken care of by the Lync transport). Also, make sure that you handle fragmentation at the Lync transport layer, the maximum Lync RDP fragment size is 1500 bytes.
