FWIW, the server is MS WindowsServer 2008 Standard.

$ xfreerdp --version
This is FreeRDP version 1.2.0-dev (git n/a)

About 1/3 of the time the session locks up somewhere around "preparing
your desktop". The xfreerdp process is using a steady 15% of a CPU
and there is a constant stream of about 20,000 packets per second
being exchanged between xfreerdp and the server. It has to be killed
from the command line.

Sometimes it gets to the desktop, then locks up using 95% CPU and
generating no network traffic. It has to be killed from the command
line.

If the session starts up, sometimes the clipboard features don't work
at all in either direction. Sometimes the clipboard features appear
to work reliably.

Working sessions always seem to generate about 20,000 packets per
second of netowrk traffic even when the desktop is static.
